About Hugh
Hugh is a chef, holistic nutritionist, and lifelong lover of real food. He believes in cooking and eating in a way that supports both body and mind, and in approaching life with curiosity, care, and a sense of balance. Whether it’s through personalized nutrition coaching or creating memorable private dining experiences, he aims to help people feel nourished, supported, and truly cared for.
Born and raised in Adelaide, South Australia, Hugh’s early life was shaped by curiosity and adventure. After leaving school, he sailed tall ships, learning independence, resilience, and the value of embracing the unknown — lessons that would later influence both his life and his approach to cooking.
Hugh’s love for food led him to culinary school and professional kitchens, eventually running his own food business in his 20s. He crafted granola, preserves, baked goods, and more, sharing his creations through markets, restaurants, hotels, and specialty grocers. Along the way, he experienced the highs of creativity and recognition — and the lows of burnout, anxiety, and self-doubt. These challenges sparked a deeper interest in health, balance, and personal growth, shaping his approach to wellness and nutrition.
After moving to Tasmania, Hugh discovered a love for event catering, creating intimate, ingredient-driven meals that celebrate the seasons and bring people together. Later, after stepping away from the intensity of restaurant life in Canada, he turned his focus to holistic nutrition. Today, as the owner of Whistler Living Kitchen, Hugh combines his culinary expertise with personalized nutrition coaching to help people feel balanced, energized, and nourished from the inside out. Alongside one-on-one coaching and private cheffing, Hugh shares his knowledge through cooking workshops, talks, and community events, creating experiences that inspire healthier, happier living for life.
Outside of cooking and nutrition, Hugh loves exploring farmers’ markets, sourcing fresh, local ingredients, and cooking with friends. He’s equally drawn to backcountry adventures and outdoor exercise, bringing the same curiosity, energy, and sense of play to the mountains as he does to the kitchen. Hugh approaches life with courage and a love of learning, and he brings that spirit to every meal, event, and wellness journey he shares, inspiring others to nourish themselves and enjoy the simple joys along the way.
